Our Eco-Conscious Choices

When I took over Rock Creek Inn, I knew I wanted it to be more than just a cozy place to sleep. I wanted it to reflect my values: caring for people and caring for the planet. That’s why we’re slowly replacing everyday items with products that are:

* Gentle on sensitive skin and allergies
* Made from renewable or recycled materials
* Packaged with minimal plastic
* Created by companies that give back

Below are a few of the brands we love so much, we use them in our rooms—and stay tuned for links for the products.... in case you fall in love with them too.

SIJO Eucalyptus Bedding

Sleep Cool & Conscious with Sijo Eucalyptus Sheets

Our guest beds are dressed in SIJO’s eucalyptus TENCEL™ Lyocell sheets—luxuriously soft, naturally cooling, and made from responsibly sourced wood pulp.

These sheets are: Cooling & breathable – perfect if you tend to sleep warm

Hypoallergenic & gentle on skin, with certifications like Oeko-Tex and asthma/allergy-friendly standards

Plant-based & sustainable, made from eucalyptus fibers in a closed-loop process that minimizes waste

I chose Sijo because I wanted guests to feel like they were sleeping in a cloud without the environmental guilt. After a long day exploring the mountains or the Rubicon Trail, you can sink into sheets that are kind to your body and the earth.

Who Gives A Crap - Toilet Paper

Yes, We Even Care About the Toilet Paper

In our bathrooms, you’ll find rolls from Who Gives A Crap®—a delightfully honest brand that makes plastic-free toilet paper from bamboo or recycled paper and donates 50% of profits to help fund toilets and sanitation projects around the world.

Why we love them:

* 100% bamboo or recycled fibers – no virgin trees cut down for a single use

* Plastic-free packaging – individually wrapped in paper, shipped in cardboard boxes

* Biodegradable & septic-safe, so they play nicely with most systems

* Gives back globally – millions donated toward clean water and sanitation projects

It might seem like a small detail, but swapping everyday items like toilet paper can add up to a big impact over time.

Why This Matters

Small Choices, Big Ripples

Running a small six-room inn means I get to make intentional choices—right down to the sheets and toilet paper. By choosing more sustainable products, we’re:

* Reducing plastic waste and single-use packaging

* Supporting companies that prioritize renewable resources

* Creating a space that’s gentler on people with allergies and sensitivities

If you’re curious about any of the eco-items you see during your stay, please ask. I’m always happy to share what we’re trying, what’s working, and what we’re still improving.

Come as a guest, leave as family—and maybe leave a little more eco-inspired, too.
